Getting to the Core: Spotlight on High Hill Ranch

It still feels like summer, but the fall apple harvest isn’t too far away, and Apple Hill farms are getting ready for the season. High Hill Ranch is opening on Saturday, August 14, getting a head start on showcasing the area’s signature crop.

High Hill is the largest farm in the area, with more than 155 acres to explore. On opening day, visitors can browse the craft fair, savor freshly baked apple doughnuts and pies and breathe in the fresh foothills air. New this year, the farm has added a brand-new deck that provides spectacular views of the pond. The new seating area is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy fresh produce, hand pressed cider and “farmer sized” portions from the BBQ.

Of course, the main attraction is the apples. This year’s crop is expected to be one of the best in a long time.

“We’ve had lots of sun and dry weather – the perfect conditions for apples to thrive,” said Kyle Bridgeman, operations manager at High Hill Ranch. “The fruit is pouring off the trees and we’re expecting a great year at all Apple Hill farms.”

High Hill Ranch is also home to the largest craft fair in Northern California. Visitors can shop of handmade jewelry, leather goods, clothing and more from dozens of artisans.

High Hill Ranch is located at 2901 High Hill Road, Placerville, CA. They will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. starting on Saturday, August 14. Starting on Labor Day weekend, pony rides return to the ranch and the fishing pond will be open for business.

“Come on up, get your family out of the house, off their screens and enjoy each other at High Hill,” said Bridgeman.
